<title>Installation of Texinfo</title>

<para>Prepare Texinfo for compilation:</para>

<para><screen><userinput>./configure --prefix=/usr</userinput></screen></para>

<para>Compile the package:</para>

<para><screen><userinput>make</userinput></screen></para>

<para>This package has a test suite available which can perform a number of
checks to ensure it built correctly.  Should you choose to run it, the 
following command will do so:</para>

<para><screen><userinput>make check</userinput></screen></para>

<para>Install the package:</para>

<para><screen><userinput>make install</userinput></screen></para>

<para>And optionally install the components belonging in a TeX installation:</para>

<para><screen><userinput>make TEXMF=/usr/share/texmf install-tex</userinput></screen></para>

<para>The meaning of the make option:</para>

<itemizedlist>
<listitem><para><userinput>TEXMF=/usr/share/texmf</userinput>: The TEXMF
makefile variable holds the location of the root of your TeX tree if, for
example, you plan to install a TeX package later on.</para></listitem>
