Presets and media

The sidebar has two lists that look similar and do different jobs.

  • A preset is a bundle of numbers for generating, laying out, and building a profile: patch count, colour space, layout resolution, profile quality, and related options.
  • A media recipe is a named combination of printer, paper, ink, preset, and optional calibration file. Paper and ink are labels you type so you can recognise the recipe later. They are not extra hidden settings sent to the printer.

Presets

The Preset pop-up applies as soon as you choose a name. No preset only clears the selection. It does not reset every field on step 1 to factory values.

  • Save opens a small sheet. Type a name and confirm. The current step 1, 2, and 4 fields are stored as a custom preset.
  • Manage lists every preset. Built-in rows show Built-in and have no delete control. Custom rows can be exported to JSON, deleted, or replaced by Import.

Apply a preset before you click Generate Target if you want those patch counts in the new chart. Applying a preset after the .ti1 exists does not rewrite the chart. Generate again if you need the new counts.

Media recipes

The Media pop-up applies as soon as you choose a name.

No media recipe clears the selection only. The fields on step 1 stay as they are.

Capture

Capture opens Save Media Recipe.

You type:

  • Name
  • Notes (optional)
  • Paper
  • Ink set

The sheet fills in, read-only:

  • Printer currently selected on step 2
  • Preset currently selected
  • Colour space
  • Path to the calibration file, if any

Save stays off until name, paper, and ink have text, and until the colour space matches the bound preset. Apply calibration to profile stays off if there is no calibration file, or if the name looks like a live calibration session (CAL_). Finish Calibrate Printer and return before you capture a recipe that should include curves.

The library holds up to 200 recipes. If it is full, Save shows a banner and nothing is added.

Manage

Manage lists each recipe as printer, paper, and ink, with the preset name and the age of the calibration file.

  • Apply loads that recipe into the live session.
  • Delete removes the recipe from the list. It does not delete the .cal file or the preset.
  • Capture current closes Manage and opens the capture sheet.

What Apply does

  1. Selects the preset. If that preset no longer exists, a banner appears and nothing else is half-applied.
  2. Selects the printer queue on step 2 if that queue is still installed. If it is not, the current queue is left alone and you see Printer X is not installed.
  3. Loads the calibration file when the recipe asks for it and the file is still on disk.

Stale and missing captions

Under the Media pop-up you may see:

  • Calibration stale. The bound .cal is older than Stale after N days in Settings (30 days unless you change it). Recalibrate if you still want curves.
  • Printer not installed. The saved queue is not on this Mac.

These captions are warnings, not locks. You can still work.

Suggested habit

Finish a profile you trust. While that printer, preset, and calibration file are still selected, click Capture and name the paper honestly. Next roll of the same stock, choose the recipe, then generate a new target only if you need a new chart.
